Hosted at Florida State University using uPortal and CAS Security

  1. Click here to see the Kuali Student Proof-of-Concept Application hosted on the Florida State University's server.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner, click on the link "Login through CAS"
  3. Type in "Kuali" (without the quotes) for your NetID and Password
  4. You should now see the Kuali Student Proof of Concept Application

Local Installation Using uPortal Security

Windows Installation

  1. Download and install the latest update of Java 1.6.0 "JDK 6 Update X" from the java.sun.com site here
  2. Download Kuali Student PoC: kuali-student-poc-nocas.zip
  3. Unzip kuali-student-poc-nocas.zip into an empty directory
  4. Set your JAVA_HOME environment variable to the root of your Java installation E.g. JAVA_HOME=C:\java\jdk1.6.0_03. See picture below
    1. For Windows, click on Start - Control Panel
    2. Double-click on the "System" icon
    3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
    4. Click on the "Environment Variables" button
    5. Click on the "New" button
    6. For "Variable name" type in: JAVA_HOME
    7. For "Variable value" type in the path to your Java 1.6.0 installation directory. E.g. C:\java\jdk1.6.0_03

Start the Application

  1. Go to the directory where you installed the "Kuali Student PoC" and double-click on "startup.bat" (without the quotes). This will start Tomcat 6.0.14 and ServiceMix 3.2.1
  2. Depending on the speed of your computer it can take up to 50 seconds for Tomcat and ServiveMix to start up.
  3. Once Tomcat and ServiceMix have started, open your browser and go to the following URL: http://localhost:8090/uPortal. Make sure you login before proceeding unless the proof-of-concept application may not work properly
  4. In the upper right-hand corner, Type in "Kuali" (without the quotes) for your Username and Password
  5. You should now see the Kuali Student Proof of Concept Application

Shutdown the Application

  1. Click on the Tomcat window and press Ctrl-C
  2. Click on the ServiceMix window and press Ctrl-C
  3. Wait until the ServiceMix window ask you to "Terminate batch job (Y/N)?" and type Y and then press Enter

Application Demo Instructions

  1. Once you have logged into the Kuali Student Proof-of-Concept Application, you should now see the "Kuali Student Team Members" screen.
  2. Click on one of the Edit links which will take you to the person contact information screen.
  3. Change the email address to your own email address and click on "Validate email syntax" button to verify that the format of your email address is correct
    1. If the email address format is correct you should see a message like "Valid Email Address: len.carlsen@ubc.ca" at the top of the portlet.
    2. If the email address format is incorrect you should see a message like "Invalid Email Address: len.carlsen.ubc.ca" at the top of the portlet.
  4. If the email address is correct click on the "Update Email address" button which will send an email to the given email address.
    1. If the email has not been verified within 2 minutes then the server's BPEL script will time out and show an error message like "Failed to update email address" at the top of the portlet.
  5. An email will be sent to the email address you entered in step 3. Click on the link in the body of the email to verify your email address.
  6. Once the email verification has successfully completed you will be returned to the "Kuali Student Team Members" screen on the Kuali Student uPortal.
