Is "7 or 8 out of 10" Good Enough? – Campuses Consider Commercial ERP Versus KFSChristina Richison, NITLE NITLE (National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education) has been facilitating conversations among small, independent colleges and universities about ERP systems and the Kuali open-source software, KFS. At this session, we will report on these conversations which describe the opportunities and challenges faced by smaller colleges in adopting such open-source ERP. This report includes summaries of two recent meetings hosted by NITLE which concluded that the current state of ERP on smaller campuses is ripe for improvement, as the current services implementations are resulting in forced upgrades, tightly-coupled systems, high costs, and are not supporting directions (such as business analytics) important to campuses. |
| 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM Laguna/Sunset | Travel Management SystemsAnne Bartlett, Indiana University This session is designed to generate active discussion surrounding travel management system needs and requirements within higher education. Part of the session will include a demonstration of Indiana University's recently implemented Travel Management System. This system processes travel authorizations, pre-payments, and reimbursements supporting university travel by IU faculty, staff, and students. The routing and approval of the documents processing these transactions is managed by the Kuali Enterprise Workflow (KEW) engine. IU's Travel Management System is a J2EE Web application using some of the same tools and frameworks used for Kuali applications. However, it was not written using the Kuali Rice infrastructure nor does it adhere to all of the Kuali development and architecture standards. It is hoped that this session will generate some good discussion surrounding travel systems and also explore possible opportunities for collaboration. |

| 2:15 PM – 3:15 PM Cardiff | Achieving Best-in-Class Spend ManagementThe intersection of Finance, e-Procurement and Supplier Relationship Management. Tony Im, SciQuest The first step for any organization to achieve effective purchasing processes and organizational efficiency is to do away with outdated, paper-based requisitioning processes. Leveraging a robust finance platform such as KFS can get you there. But even after these inefficient processes have been eliminated, the job is only half done. Surveys of organizations that have completed this step of the process show that a large percentage of them still have not realized the substantial savings that can be accomplished through effective online procurement and supplier relationship management. The next step in unlocking the full potential of a comprehensive spend management program is to successfully cross the hurdles of supplier enablement and broad employee adoption. These challenges are interrelated in that, with the integration of comprehensive supplier catalog resources, users have more choices and are able to fulfill their needs on-system, driving user adoption. It is in this manner that organizations can drive the maximum number of orders through their finance and procurement platforms while maximizing their on-contract spending, realizing strategic savings in both hard and soft costs. Attend this session to learn how best-in-class organizations are optimizing their e-procurement processes and financial efficiencies through electronic procurement and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) best practices. You'll also learn how the SciQuest procurement platform integrates with Kuali KFS, and see a live demonstration of the solution. |
