Dowdy and Walda Join Kuali Foundation Board


BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Kuali Foundation has announced the appointment of Stephen Dowdy and John Walda to its board. Both executives bring particular strengths in financial and business management and research administration for higher education.

“The Board and I are delighted to be joined by Steve and John. They are two highly qualified individuals who share the vision for open source’s promise,” said Brad Wheeler, Indiana University chief information officer and chair of the Kuali Foundation.

Stephen Dowdy is currently the assistant director, Network and Information Systems for the Office of Sponsored Programs at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a position he has held since 1996. Dowdy has 24 years of experience as a computer professional in the sponsored research environment with an extensive knowledge of sponsored research administration. At MIT, he is the business process owner for the COEUS application, one of the first cradle-to-grave award management tools in the nation. Additionally, he serves as a co-chair for the Electronic Research Administration (ERA) committee of the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP) and serves on the NIH advisory group for the NIH Commons.

John D. Walda is currently president of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and is senior vice president, federal relations, at BoseTreacy Associates, LLC in Indianapolis. Walda’s career has spanned three decades in both law and public policy. Mr. Walda most recently served as a partner in the Litigation Group of Bose McKinney & Evans, representing clients both from Indianapolis and Washington, D.C. He has achieved recognition in the legal community through several high profile cases, including his representation of the State of Indiana in the national tobacco litigation. Mr. Walda also served at Indiana University as executive director of federal relations and served as president of IU Trustees from 1992-1993 and again from 1994-2002.
