What's the difference between Kuali Coeus and Coeus?

Coeus is an electronic research administration system originally developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and sustained by the Coeus Consortium. Kuali Coeus is also an electronic research administration system, largely based on the functionality and data model of Coeus, being developed under the umbrella of the Kuali Foundation.

The Coeus and Kuali Coeus projects are collaborating to merge their efforts such that, at some point in the future, institutions using Coeus will be provided with an upgrade path to Kuali Coeus. The Kuali Coeus sustaining partners will continue to development and enhance Kuali Coeus software under the Kuali Coeus Community.
The Coeus Consortium and Kuali Foundation are making great strides in bringing the two organizations together. The joint meeting of the Coeus Steering Committee and the Kuali Coeus Functional Council in May 2010 at the Colorado Face-to-Face was extremely productive. Newly drafted membership agreements are near finalization, the plans for functional equivalency and migration paths from Coeus to KC are under way, the merging of the Steering and FC, as well as the Subcommittees and Kuali SME groups was approved, and plans for upcoming meetings are well under way.
