The Kuali Foundation is pleased to announce  release 1.0 of Kuali People Management for the Enterprise (KPME). This release, the KPME Time and Attendance module, provides a robust, enterprise-wide, easy-to-use system for tracking and approving employee time. KPME Time and Attendance will allow implementing institutions to:

  • Eliminate paper-based, departmental or outsourced systems
  • Provide for flexible timesheet routing and approval
  • Provide for consistent application of institutional policies, as well as state and federal labor laws
  • Provide for easy auditability

KPME Release 1.0 is the result of collaboration of multiple higher education and commercial affiliates including Iowa State University, Indiana University, San Joaquin Delta College, and VivanTech, with assistance from Colorado State University, and the City of Bloomington, Indiana.

Maury Hope, Associate Chief Information Officer at Iowa State University and KPME Project Board Chair said, "KPME 1.0 marks the first step in delivering open source software that addresses the functional needs of higher education for human resources and payroll. It is a key piece of the puzzle that is building the foundation for comprehensive administrative systems with the business processes unique to higher education as the primary requirements. I am extremely pleased with the collaborative efforts demonstrated by the universities and our Kuali commercial affiliate on the KPME project. They are working in conjunction with the other Kuali projects to provide solutions for higher education that reach far beyond HR and payroll."

All software and materials delivered by the Kuali Foundation are available under the Educational Community License and can be adopted by colleges and universities without licensing fees.

The KPME Project Team is currently focusing its efforts on building a Leave Management module that will be integrated with KPME Time and Attendance.  This module will accrue benefit time for all employees, as well as provide an easy-to-use interface for employees to request and report time off.

These first two modules are the initial components of a larger project to build an enterprise-wide comprehensive Human Resource and Payroll system for higher education by higher education.

Jennifer Foutty, Executive Director of the Kuali Foundation, stated, "We are pleased to see the KPME project's successful delivery of release 1.0. This is the start of a major effort to deliver full HR/Payroll functionality and will complement other projects that are delivering major components of a full administrative set of enterprise systems, including Kuali Financial System, Kuali Student, Kuali Coeus for Research Administration, and Kuali Open Library Environment."
