The University of Arizona (UA) is excited to announce our progress in implementing Kuali Coeus 2.0 for research administration, locally branded UAccess Research Administration. We are in Phase 1 of implementing the Proposal Development and Award modules for back office functions by the Sponsored Projects Services Office.
The UA's current research administration system, called SPINS, has been in production for more than 20 years. The UA outgrew this system some time ago, and SPINS creates more risk as time passes. Although we had originally planned to begin implementation by rolling out the Kuali Coeus Proposal Development module to our entire campus, setbacks suffered by SPINS prompted a re-evaluation of our implementation plans.
Our implementation team is now working on getting funtionality that will replace our SPINS system into place prior to rolling out the UAccess Research Administration sytem to the rest of campus. Our back office implementation will help us to retire SPINS and address data entry, tracking, and reporting needs for campus.
We have multiple environments up and running and are in the middle of our LDAP and CAS integrations. We also have a Conference Room Pilot (CRP) scheduled for Tuesday, September 21. The CRP will consist of a selective testing of entering proposals into the Proposal Development module. The goals of the CRP are to test the stability of the software, to confirm the proposed business processes we have established, and to get transactional data in the system in order for us to start building our reports. We have scheduled two future CRPs that will test Award and Proposal/Award integration.
Stay tuned for further developments!
